Job Summary:

The Vice President of Accounting will lead the accounting function for the company’s multi-family property portfolio, overseeing all financial and accounting operations. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

This individual will serve as a key financial partner to operations and executive leadership, providing insights that drive performance and support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, analytical leader with a strong background in property management accounting, a strong sense of urgency, and a proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams. This role will also play a critical part in modernizing the accounting function through the implementation of technology and AI-driven solutions, enhancing efficiency and scalability.

This role requires a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader who builds strong partnerships across departments and supports operational teams in achieving shared goals.

Work Environment: This is a hybrid position, requiring in-office presence two days per week.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Operations

  • Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency
  • Manage the draw process to maximize funding and ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity; prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts
  • Partner closely with Property Management and Operations to provide actionable financial insights that improve portfolio performance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Yardi, identifying opportunities to improve processes, automate workflows, and enhance reporting accuracy

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Analyze financial results and trends, identifying risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Partner with operations to analyze delinquency trends and drive actionable solutions
  • Present financial results to senior leadership with clear insights and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Develop and maintain reporting packages and dashboards to enhance visibility and performance tracking

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with Operations and department leaders
  • Prepare and maintain rolling forecasts to assess financial performance and support proactive decision-making
  • Monitor and analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecast, identifying key drivers and recommending corrective actions
  • Support long-term financial planning aligned with company objectives

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, tax requirements, and reporting standards
  • Oversee and maintain property and corporate insurance programs, including renewals and negotiations
  • Assess financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate exposure while supporting business objectives
  • Regularly review and audit credit card usage, policies, and spending to ensure compliance and minimize risk
  • Serve as a liaison with lenders and external partners, supporting strong financial relationships

Technology, Automation & AI Integration

  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of technology solutions, including AI-driven tools, to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the accounting function
  • Identify and drive automation of manual processes (e.g., reconciliations, reporting, invoice processing, and data entry)
  • Partner cross-functionally to enhance system integrations between accounting, operations, and property management platforms
  • Optimize utilization of Yardi and other financial systems
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend solutions that support business growth and operational excellence
  • Support implementation and adoption of AI tools, including workflow automation and enhanced reporting capabilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and development for the accounting team, both onshore and offshore
  • Foster a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Establish clear performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and drive ongoing professional development
  • Build and scale team structure, processes, and capabilities to support organizational growth and evolving business needs 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership responsibility
  • Strong experience in multi-family property management accounting required
  • Advanced proficiency in Yardi preferred
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
  • Proven ability to manage and develop teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • High sense of urgency, accountability, and attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and video conferencing
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach within an office environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds on an occasionally
  • Ability to travel occasionally to company offices or property sites
